Jean Taek Park as a young boy witnesses rapid growth and expansion of Seoul. The mass construction of concrete block buildings is overwhelming in scale and speed. Not only places are lost but also memories and emotions which are embedded in the places. He naturally becomes interested in questions such as “how to reconcile it?” and “how architecture permeates beyond the limit of site boundaries?” He is exploring architecture as poetic images between two polar positions; One position sees architecture as structure for eternity and the other as garden of ephemera. He thinks that the chasm of absolute order and temporality of being could be the fundamental of poetic images. He worked for various practices both in Korea and the U.K. including David Chipperfied Architects. He taught at Oxford Brookes University in the U.K. and is now teaching at Seoul National University.
