AXIA Design Associates (formerly Atelier3AM) was established by former classmates and longtime friends Taymoore Balbaa and Chris Wong. After apprenticeships in top global design firms, the partners began their renewed collaboration with a focus on international design competitions. Early results propelled the practice, and allowed the building of expertise on what most attracted our participation: large and complex public buildings and urban interventions around the world. At the same time, our early commissioned work and first completed projects were equally diverse, from urban infill projects in Toronto to high-rises in Hong Kong. In 2014 we established our office in Hong Kong, with aim of better serving clientele on a growing number of high-profile projects, locally and in Asia. AXIA continues to diversify its expertise, and maintain the highest standards of design. Through site-specific methodologies to each and every design challenge, our work addresses its geographic, social, and cultural context. The studio builds knowledge through multidisciplinary practice, both internally as well as with an expanded network of expertise. We thrive within a climate of discussion and discovery, and excel in the creation of unexpected results.
